about insulators. The books listed here are key references that will help you
understand more about the insulators shown on this site. Some of these references
contain more detailed information about the terminology used on this Web site.
This list is a small subset of the many good books that are available. I will

- Insulators: A History and Guide to North American Glass Pintype
Insulators, by John and Carol McDougald
This is the primary reference on glass pintype insulators manufactured in
North America. It is in three volumes
- Volume 1 (1990) - This volume has a great deal of historical information
about glass insulators.
- Volume 2 (1990) - This volume is a pictorial guide to the different
styles of insulators. This volume contains full size pictures of all of
the styles of glass insulators known at the time of printing, including
CD numbers.
- 1999 Price Guide - The current price guide. This volume also contains
much of the information needed to interpret the descriptions of glass insulators.
This volume also contains small drawings of all of the styles of glass insulators,
identified by their CD numbers.
- Porcelain Insulators: Guide Book for Collectors (Third Edition),
by Jack H. Tod (1988). Reprinted by Elton Gish in 1995
This is the primary reference for unipart porcelain insulators and contains
the Universal Style Chart, a pictorial representation of all of the different
styles of unipart porcelain insulators known at the time of printing. These
are the U-numbers that are used on this site.
