2012 National Show

Several significant awards were presented at the banquet.  For the first time the NIA has created a "Hall of Fame".  This award honors key contributors to either the insulator hobby or the industry itself.  Three hobby pioneers received this honor for 2012.  The NIA also presented a Lifetime Membership and an Outstanding Service award.

The first three inductees to the NIA Hall of Fame were pioneer collectors who were instrumental in organizing and documenting the styles of pin type insulators along with historical research into the companies that made them.  N.R. "Woody" Woodward of Houston, TX developed the CD numbering system for glass pin-type insulators as well as providing significant research into US glass makers.  Jack Tod of Arizona developed the U-number system for porcelain pin-type numbers along with significant research into insulator makers, patents and the electrical porcelain industry.  Marilyn Albers of Houston was instrumental in the insulators, both glass and porcelain, from outside the United States.  Marilyn worked with both Woody and Jack to publish references for both glass and porcelain from outside the US.  She also did significant research into history and makers of these items.  All three inductees were long time contributors to the hobby magazine Crown Jewels of the Wire.  Both Jack and Marilyn authored a semi-monthly column for many years and were the base of knowledge for their area.  Woody also published several regular articles in Crown Jewels as well as making all pin-type CD assignments for insulators world wide to this day.
