Radio Strain Insulators

Radio strain insulators are used to insulate either end of a wire antenna from the tower or other mounting hardware.  The smaller styles were frequently used by HAM radio hobbyists for back yard antenna installations.  There is a tremendous variety of these available and there are collectors that specialize in these styles. These strains are limited to "tension" strains as opposed to compression strains. Thanks to Connie Dueker for providing extensive pictures and information to support this reference.

Note that for eight years a great newsletter "Old Familiar Strains" was published bi-monthly by Dan Howard. Dan has provided the NIA with permission to publish this great resource -- just follow this link!
