Plastic Insulators

In more recent years plastic is available to replace glass and porcelain for most insulator types.  These range from communication pintypes to high tension insulators.  There are also plastic guy wire insulators, electric fence insulators, and wire seperators.  These plastic insulators are generally not as popular with collectors as they are not very old and are less significant in the history of the development of communications and power distribution then their glass and porcelain counterparts.

Threaded plastic pintype insulators as follows (Left to right).

  • Standard threaded style similar to glass CD 154 embossed "L-W"

  • Standard threaded style similar to glass CD 154 embossed "CEECO"

  • Standard threaded style similar to glass CD 154 embossed "REN"

  • Unmarked standard threaded style similar to glass CD 154 made of a bake-lite material

  • Unusual slot top plastic insulator (This is likely from outside North America)

Clear plastic style embossed "H.K. PORTER"

A modern strain style used for electric fencing or dead ending.

Here is a high voltage plastic insulator.  These styles are now replacing porcelain power insulators for distribution.  They are popular for their low weight and damage resistance.

This is a plastic wire separator insulator.  These are used to support three phase rubber insulated cable and hang from a neutral wire at the top.
