Ginori was founded 1735 by marchese Carlo Ginori in the town of Doccia in Sesto Fiorentino, near Florence in Tuscany. After 1879 insulator production started under the name Ginori. In 1896, Ginori incorporated with the Societa Ceramica Richard of Milan, a larger manufacturer of ceramics, and thus was renamed Richard-Ginori. Insulator production continued and expanded after the merger. Richard-Ginori was in bankruptcy in 2013 but were acquired by Gucci and are still making porcelain, but not insulators.
