Radio Lightning Arresters

Residential radio sets required outside antennas to get good reception which raised the risk of damage from even a nearby lightning strike. These typically used either a resistor or a spark-gap to drain the excessive charge away to protect the radio and the house from fire and damage. These usually were made of dry process porcelain but are also known in glass and composition versions. In addition to radio antenna use these could also be applied to protect electric fences. Many companies made these and the colors can be quite nice.
