The 1999 National Show! June 25-27, 1999

The thirtieth national insulator show was held in Scottsdale, Arizona from June 25th to June 27th.   Show hosts Steve and Melanie Marks did a fantastic job planning and coordinating this excellent show!  Members of the Grand Canyon State Insulator Club provided help for set-up and assisting with the show.  The show was held at the Scottsdale Paradise Valley Doubletree Resort which is a beautiful sprawling Hotel with a large and well lit show hall.  The show was a sell-out with 130 sales tables and 20 great displays.

Steve and Melanie made this a great National by covering all the details.   They paid for advertising in the insulator magazine, but also in many local periodicals and newspapers.  In addition to the paid advertising, they put together a press package which got quite a bit of free publicity.  They also distributed show flyers at all the local antique shops and shows.

Collectors began arriving on Thursday late morning.  It is always great to see collector friends you only ever  talked with on the phone or through E-mail, and those that you only get to see at a few shows!  For anyone who has not been to a National show, it is always a fantastic experience and a lot of fun!

To really get a feel for a National show, there is nothing better than being there, but I'll try to capture some of the show here in pictures.  Thanks go to Kevin Lawless, Doug MacGillvary, and John McDougald and Carol McDougald for providing pictures and information for this report.

National shows are unlike anything else in the hobby.  It is the one time of year where collectors from across the globe get together and meet.
