The 1998 National Show:

July 31-August 2nd, 1998

The twenty ninth national insulator show was held in Williamsburg Virginia from July 31st to August 2nd at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center.   The show hosts were Mark Becher and Marcia Wells from MD, Gus Stafford and Mike Doyle from VA, and Jim Frustieri from NJ.   The show had great turn-out with 140 sales tables and 19 excellent displays.

The show was well run and included an educational seminar with three presentations!  John and Carol McDougald showed a slide presentation on what goes into publishing "Crown Jewels of the Wire" each month.  Bob Stahr showed some of the non-insulator products made by Hemingray and detailed information on dating Hemingray insulators.  Dick Bowman presented some key historic insulator finds -- The Fisher Railway insulators dug in Michigan, the Richmond dig which uncovered many threadless eggs, and the research and discoveries of the Southern Porcelain Company by Gary Dexter.

Here are some pictures from the show.  As you can see, the displays were fantastic!  Thanks go to Kevin Lawless for providing pictures for this report.

If you have never been to a national show, I highly recommend the experience!
