Siemens & Halske: Germany
Berlin-Kreuzberg, Germany
|
Siemens & Halske was founded in 1847 by Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske. The company was located in Berlin-Kreuzberg manufacturing electrical telegraphs to Charles Wheatstone's 1837 patent. In 1848 the company constructed one of the first European telegraph lines from Berlin to Frankfurt am Main. Siemens & Halske also expanded into Great Britain (Carl Wilhelm Siemens) and Russia (Carl Heinrich von Siemens) including cable-manufacturing plants at Woolwich (Great Britain) and Saint Petersburg (Russia). Werner von Siemens patented the electrical generator (dynamo) in 1867.
The insulators marked with the years in a circle are likely products of Gorodok porcelain (outside of Saint Petersburg, Russia). In 1903 Siemens & Halske merged parts of its activities with Schuckert & Co. of Nuremberg to become Siemens-Schuckert, Siemens & Halske AG. They continued through WWII.
