The company was founded in 1875 in Arita near Nagasaki as a family business. Ezaiemon Fukagawa founded a company 'Koransha' (The Company of the Scented Orchid) and started to produce porcelain for export to Europe and America. They have been making insulators since at least 1879. They made some of the first insulators used on the island to replace the "Varley double cup earthenware" insulators used on the original telegraph lines, which are still located in Western Japan today. markings KORAN, “scented orchid, and “Mount Fuji with a stream”
