This high voltage insulator was made by the Corning Glass Works of Pyrex glass. It is numbered 553 indicating a 55KV rating.  These were made both in clear glass and with carnival coating.  The carnival coating is intended to reduce AM radio noise by providing a slightly conductive surface to eliminate corona.
