This insulator is a very unusual no tie style patented by William Twiggs.  Shown is the front and top view -- the idea was to place the wire in the top groove and drop marbles into the top slot to wedge the wire in place.  The specimens found were clearly never used as they are all clear but have been shown to turn purple in the sun.
